Bug eggs on window sill

Ladybugs are generally thought of as being lucky. Apparently this came about from gardeners who had bugs such as aphids, scale or whiteflies eating their plants but as soon as the ladybug showed up they knew help had arrived. It is said that if a ladybug lands on your finger one wish will be granted or if one flies into your bedroom this too will bring good luck. With over different species worldwide the ladybug is almost universally thought of as beneficial. The classic red with black spots is what most people think of when speaking of ladybugs but some have no markings at all and even entomologists have trouble identifying the different kinds or figuring out the beetles that closely resemble them but are in fact not ladybugs.

Both the larvae and the adult beetles are voracious eaters feeding mainly on aphids and other sap eating insects. If food becomes scarce the adults simply fly to another location but the nymphal stages do not fly so the female lays unfertilized eggs that can serve as food for the young in these tough times. Although these beetles are not harmful they can at times infest homes in large numbers when the weather turns cold.

It seems impossible for this bright almost round beetle to get in your home let alone congregate in large numbers usually on your window sill. Ladybugs do not hibernate but over winter which is a fancy way of saying she sleeps the cold months away waiting for spring. If they can get into your home they will and they are probably on the window sill for the warmth. Either leave them be until spring or sweep them into a container and let them fly away when it warms up.

They are small household-invading mites that have long front legs. To the naked eye they are no more than tiny red bugs and appear no larger than a pinhead.

For the most part they feed on clover, grassy lawns, plants and weeds and tend to appear by the thousands in the spring and fall months. Clover mites will crawl from the ground to invade your home through cracks and tiny openings around windows and doors. Inside, you may find them crawling around window sills, on walls, or directly on windows.

No larger than a pinhead, these red bugs will leave behind a tell-tale stain when smashed. On the exterior, you may find thousands of tiny red bugs congregating in large numbers on siding, brick walls and other outside surfaces.

Clover mites can be a particularly difficult pest to eradicate. That's because they they tend to infest homes in significant numbers. For the last week and half, I have had an influx of tiny black insects, that stay around my window sills. Originally the insects appeared only in my upstairs bedroom windows…all over the bottom, and top where the latch is located and windowsills. The spray kills them, and each day a few more would enter and die. I have on occasion seen a larger one in the batch.

Yesterday, I had an Exterminator come. He did not recommend spraying or fogging. Said to clean the up, because I had just left them dead the last couple of days, so he could see them.

He then instructed me to pour Bleach down the window weep holes. He also found some dead under one plant…a succulent. I do have plants, that requiring water once every five weeks, so soil stays pretty dry… and two once a week watering. There were none found, but under the one succulent plant in saucer. The first day there were a few on the wall, near window, and inside my curtains and blinds. The bugs come from outside.

He said I should use Fish oil to saturated the top soil. Said it would kill any eggs they might have laid, although they prefer wet soil. Additionally, he said to pour beach into all drains, in case there are any eggs. This is causing me such anxiety, as I have to go out of town for several days, and scarred what I might return to. In doing so I am sure all the spray I previously put down was wiped away. I feel like I should spray again before going out of town. I live in a connected town house, I am very clean none, of my neighbors are having an issue.

There are no fruit trees, or heavy shrubs by my windows. Upstairs there is nothing. I hate having to keep all my windows closed. He said when I had my bedroom window open while cleaning, the first day of the influx, this might have allowed them in, and eggs were hatched.

What are they and how do I get rid of them? Thanks, Erik. These little guys will commonly live inside food items like pasta, cereal, flour or pet food.

Basically any kind of stored product one might get from the market. From the food adults will migrate looking for new areas to lay eggs so new infestations will commonly develop in cabinets, pantries, baseboards and other areas in and around the kitchen.

Adults can fly well and will target new areas on which to lay eggs. Give us a call if you need more help. PS: Please show your support for our business by purchasing the items we recommend from the links provided.

We have seen them flying around lamps in the evening in our basement family room. I think they are coming from a storage area in my basement because I find a bunch of them around the door frame in the morning if I shut the door at night.

We just returned from vacation and found hundreds of them dead and its grossing me out. I had a friend water my plants while we were gone and she thought it was mouse poop!! Please help! Paid a small fortune for window treatments that I don't like.

Adult insects go toward the light because they "know" it's the way out. The problem is that no one told them about windows. I have these tiny bugs by my lights mostly in my kitchen window area and sliding glass door I need to know what they are they look just like picture and how to get rid of them. Picture please, as close up as possible. Nobody knows what the previous insects were because of lack of photos.

We do know they weren't bedbugs--they don't fly. Same here! I did end up finding live action in my pasta but what clued me in were the dead ones in the track of my sliding glass doors as well!

The pasta guy is a weevil--look at that cute little snout!

Comments How do you know whether that little dry pile of something you find is from drywood termites? Look at this photo comparison.

Drywood termite pellets look a lot like coffee grounds mixed with sand. Magnified, termite pellets have the smooth shape of arborio rice, not the chippy shape of coffee grounds or salt and pepper.

They have rounded ends and six flattened or concavely depressed sides with ridges at angles between the six surfaces. Drywood termites derive their nutrition from cellulose in wood. The protozoa produce enzymes that digest cellulose causing the break down of wood particles to simpler compounds that termites absorb as food. Undigested particles are excreted as fecal pellets. Mounds of drywood termite fecal pellets are a tell-tell sign of a drywood termite infestation.

These pellets often are found in small piles below infested wood. Because drywood termite pellets are a warning sign of termite activity, do not clean up drywood termite pellets until after your termite inspector has confirmed the identification. Insects are a nuisance anytime they invade a home or automobile, and they can be problematic to deal with due to their small size. Some bugs are the size of a pinhead, so they can easily slip into the house through cracks in window frames and other small openings.

If you notice pinhead-sized insects starting to accumulate on or around your windows, getting rid of them should be a priority before they can propagate and increase their numbers.

Swat the window with a flyswatter to kill some of the insects. Bugs as small as a pinhead can be difficult to crush but you can eliminate some of them through traditional crushing methods. Spray the window with an insecticide to kill off the remaining insects if you are still having problems with them. Clean the glass by spraying it with white vinegar and water in a half-and-half solution.

This will remove the insect remains from the glass and will clean the insecticide off the window. Wipe away the vinegar solution with a microfiber cloth to remove the debris and get the glass clean again.
